I usually start with the argument rather than trying to sound impressive from the first sentence. If I can’t explain what I actually want to convince the reader of, the whole essay tends to wander. I recently came across a helpful collection of persuasion topics that gave me a few directions I hadn’t considered, especially ideas where there’s room to argue both sides instead of just repeating an obvious opinion. For me, that makes research much easier because I can focus on evidence and counterarguments instead of filling space.
