Exit tax California is the idea of taxing high net worth individuals as they leave the state particularly when such individual still have economic considerations. The tax has not been enacted despite being talked about in law circles a number of times. It is practiced on individuals who are of substantial wealth or have substantial assets in business and it is set to interfere with the loss to the revenue due to migration of residents to other states which are tax friendly. The name has led to the confusion since it is not found to have a formal exit tax legislation in effect now but proposed legislation still sparks debate on this issue.
