Four nursing work methods have been identified: functional nursing, individual nursing, team nursing, and primary nursing. Functional nursing also referred to as task nursing, prioritizes the allocation of work according to the execution of specific tasks and procedures, with the objective of the action being the task itself rather than the patient. The case method or total patient care strategy, refers to a scenario in which a solitary nurse takes on complete accountability for providing care to a cohort of patients over a given shift. This approach arose as a solution to the issue of inadequate nurse staffing and the prevalent discontent among both healthcare professionals and patients with the functional nursing approach. UK Nursing Assignments are often based on this approach. The primary nursing approach is founded on the concept that a nurse assumes the responsibility of strategizing, administering, and assessing the care provided to one or multiple patients throughout their entire hospitalization, from admission to discharge.
