Bagwash: What’s the Best Way to Clean and Reuse Reusable Storage Bags?

Hello everyone,

I’ve recently come across the term bagwash, and I’m curious about how people use it in their daily routines. My family uses reusable storage bags for meal prep, leftovers, snacks, and freezer storage, so keeping them clean is becoming more important.

I usually wash the bags by hand with warm water and mild dish soap, but drying them properly can be a challenge. Sometimes moisture stays trapped inside, and I worry that it could lead to odors or reduce the lifespan of the bags. That’s why I’m interested in learning whether there are better bagwash methods.

Do you have a routine that works well? Are there any tools or accessories that make washing and drying reusable bags easier? I’ve seen drying racks and bag holders online, but I’m not sure whether they’re actually worth buying or if simple household items work just as well.

I’m also wondering how often reusable bags should be replaced. Even with regular bagwash, is there a point where they’re no longer safe for storing food? If you use silicone bags or heavy-duty reusable plastic bags, how long have they lasted with proper care?

Another question is about cleaning after storing raw meat or greasy foods. Do you use a different washing method for those bags compared to ones that only hold dry snacks or sandwiches?

My goal is to reduce single-use plastic waste while keeping food storage safe and hygienic. If you’ve been using reusable bags for a while, I’d really appreciate hearing your bagwash tips, product recommendations, and maintenance routines.

Thanks in advance for sharing your experiences. I’m sure your advice will help others who want to get the most out of their reusable storage bags while making more environmentally friendly choices.
