Always feels like there are two types of people in the world. The ones who step off the plane, head straight to the first rental counter they see, and just pay whatever the price is. And then the ones who do a little research beforehand and find something a lot cheaper. You can look for a rental car from private owners in Sweden, for example here: https://getrentacar.com/en-US/sweden. They'll deliver it to the airport too if you just ask. Ends up being a pretty solid difference in price.
Honestly kind of jealous, at least you know where your roots are. My grandparents were gone before I was old enough to really take any of it in, so I never got those stories either. They were immigrants too, one side came from Ireland and the other from the Netherlands, but there was just no one around to tell me much about any of that. I have been to Sweden though, went there for an IT conference for work one time. Rented a car right there at Stockholm airport.
My mom's side of the family is originally from Sweden. My grandparents immigrated to the US after World War II and settled down here, that's where I was born. They used to tell me so much about back home while they were still around. I've really been wanting to go over there and see the places they talked about, maybe even track down some relatives while I'm at it. Where's a good place to rent a car for getting around the country?
